"Personal Effects" are classified as used items that were owned for a minimum of 6 months and are intended to be used personally by the consignee. If you are traveling or moving and ship your personal effects or sport equipment to New Zealand, the following document is suggested to be provided for customs clearance:
- Packing list with item name, quantity and value (necessary for
ExpPackage to create customs invoice)
- Consignee's Passport and visa copy*

later.
Customs may request additional documentation if you are moving to
New Zealand permanently. If it is needed, we will inform you before the
shipment.
New Zealand customs has the right to check the items inside your bag. To
avoid customs delay, please do not ship any brand-new product, prohibited item or
commercial goods. NZ customs may charge duties, taxes and related
customs fees for personal effects shipment at their own discretion. The consignee is
responsible to comply with customs laws and regulations, and any applied customs
charges.
If you are sending new items for personal or commercial use, a packing list with
item name, quantity and unit value is necessary for customs clearance.
The good news is that if the total shipment cost is less than the
"De Minimis Value", the consignee may not be charged duties or taxes for the
shipment. NZ customs has the right to check items inside package. If
the shipment is valued above the de minimis value, the consignee will be responsible
for applied duties, taxes and customs fees.

The "De Minimis Value" regulation does not apply to alcoholic beverages, tobacco and perfume. As special licenses are needed for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and perfume is defined as dangerous goods to ship internationally, ExpPackage does not suggest you ship them.
